Stovall, John. Will of, Granville County, NC 29 July 1781 Transcribed and Submitted by Audrey Pool “John STOVALL of Granville Co, NC 29 July 1781 Let all my just debts be paid. Lend to my beloved wife during her life or wodowhood all my land whereon I now live, four Negroes Aggey, Antony, Jacob, and Jane, all my household and kitchen furniture; likewise all my stock of horses, cattle, sheep, and hoggs while she lives a widow. Whenever my wife marries or dies I give my land lent to her to my son Drury STOVALL. To my son Bartholomew STOVALL after my wife’s marriage or decease my Negro Antoney. To my son Josiah STOVALL my Negro Aggey, Roden, and Hanner and their increase after my wife marries or dies. To my son William STOVALL after my wife marries or dies my Negro Jacob. To my son Drury STOVALL after my wife marries or dies my Negro girl Jene and her increase. To my three grand daughter Rebeccak (sic) STOVALL, Susannah STOVALL, Mary STOVALL daughters of Thomas STOVALL after my wife marries or dies all my beds and furniture to be equally divided between them. To my son in law Owen GRIFFIN my Negro girl Patt and her increase, my bell mettle skillet, dutch oven, and looking glass. To my son Benjamin STOVALL my Negro woman Fancy and her increase from this time. To my grandson John STOVALL son of Thomas STOVALL my Negro boy James, my saddle with a horse to be raised out of that part of my estate to be sold & the horse to be worth that sum 10 or 12 pounds in the year 1794, and all my wairing (sic) aparil (sic). To my son in law Aaron PINSIN (PINSON) a Negro girl Phillis and her increase from this time. To my son in law William POOLE my Negro girl Dilsey and her increase from this time. To my son John STOVALL a Negro boy Abraham. To my son George STOVALL 5 shillings sterling to be raised out of that part of my estate to be sold. To my son Drury STOVALL my brandy still and the appurtenances. After my wife’s marriage or death all the remainder of my estate be sold and the money arising be equally divided between all my children except my son George. My sons Bartholomew STOVALL & Benjamin STOVALL and Drury STOVALL Executors. Wit: Samuel SMITH, Wm KNIGHT, John YOUNG. John (X) STOVALL November Court 1781 proved by oaths of Samuel SMITH & John YOUNG. Bartholomew STOVALL & Drury STOVALL qualified as executors.”
