Whereas, Edward Harrison (colored orphan) of the age of eight years, of said County, is not possessed of any estate, sufficient for his support, education and maintenance: Now Therefore, I, David L. Roath , Ordinary of said County, in the exercise of the authority in me by law vested, have bound out and apprenticed, and by these presents do bind out and apprentice the said Edward Harrison , aged as aforesaid, until he shall attain the age of twenty-one years, to Jackspn C. Millner, of said County . And the said Jackson C. Millner , on his part, hereby engages to teach his said Apprentice, the said Edward Harrison the business of a House Servant: to furnish him with wholesome food, suitable clothing and necessary wholesome food, suitable clothing and necessary medicine and medical attendance; to teach him habits of industry, honesty and morality; to cause him to be taught to read English, and to govern him with humanity, using only the same degree of force to compel obedience as a father may use with his minor child.
