Montgomery Advertisor, April 12, 1881:

Richard DERRICK, a colored man, who was born as 
the slave of Caswell DERRICK, died near the 
Bell Factory, Madison County, March 28th, of pneumonia.  
His white friends desire us to announce his death on 
account of his honesty, his courageous adherence to 
the Democratic Party… and his love for his mother and 
sisters… his wife and four children… -Huntsville Democrat
