“John ROBERSON of Granville County, North Carolina, 
8 April 1773

   ‘Being sick and weak of body’.  Just debts be paid.  
To my daughter Sarah SHORT one Negro wench Cate & her two 
children.  To my son John ROBERSON one Negro fellow Tony.  
To my son Nicholas ROBERSON one Negro wench Phillis.  To 
Mark ROBERSON youngest child one Negro fellow Peter called 
Great Peter.  To my grand daughter Ruth, Abram ROBERSON’S 
daughter one Negro fellow Ben & one child Cate, one bed and 
furniture, & one cow and calf.  To Robert ROBERSON Little 
Peter & Negro wench Sarah.  To James MITCHEL 50 acres of 
land of the upper side of the branch whereon he lives.  
To Nath’l ROBERSON* Negro wench Febe.  To my granddaughter 
Susannah ROBERSON one Negro child Sarah.  To James MITCHEL 
one Negro wench Sillvany.  My wife Mary ROBERSON have all 
the rest of my Negroes, horses, hoggs, & cattle, all my 
household goods with the land she now lives on with all the 
moveables on the said plantation as long as she doth live.  
After her decease my land and everything therein be sold & 
equally divided between my seven children Sarah, John, Nicholas, 
Nathaniel, Francis, Mark, Robert, Edward ROBERSON, Miles WILLIAMS, 
& Charles EATON my Executors.   John ® ROBERSON.  Wit:   
William NEAL, Travis BOWDON, Ormond MORGAIN.  May Court 1774 
proved by oath of William NEAL and Travis BOWDON.”
