James POWELL Junior to me Alexander MOORE, Ordinary of York District an Instrument of writing containing the last Will and Testament of James POWELL up which Robert KENEDY and Ann THOMPSON were subscribing to the same. “Will of James POWELL of the State of South Carolina, York County, planter …to my beloved wife Sarah, a Negro wench named Beck the wench that formerly belonged to her before I married her, one Bed and furniture, one mare named, Keat, which I purchased of Ned GALLIMORE and her saddle to her and my present Room in the north East corner of my house and her maintenance with the rest of my family during her Widowhood and one good Cow and Calf and one pot that she had in possession when I married her; to my son James POWELL, one mulatto Boy named Ned and the young stud horse and one bed and furniture and a writing Desk and one new saddle and Bridle and as much money as will buy a new suit of clothes and my rifle gun and one half of a three Hundred Acre Tract of Land on Cherokee Creek, Spartanburg county, the lower part of the tract; to my daughter Nancy (POWELL) one Negro girl named Milley and Negro boy named Daniel, one bed and furniture, two cows, the same being all now in her possession except the Negro boy; to my son Thomas (POWELL) a wench named, Feeb, the younger, the upper half of a tract of which my son James (POWELL) gets the lower half and a mare named Creeping Keat & my still and eighteen vessels & my smooth bore gun, a new saddle & bridle, one bed and furniture; to my son John (POWELL) one Negro named Abram, one horse named Clearout, one bed and, one bed & furniture, one tract of land on Kings Creek of 445 acres including a shoal on said creek; to my daughter Patsey (POWELL) a Negro boy named Ephraim, one bed and furniture, one horse of $100 value and a new saddle and bridle, one bed and furniture; to my daughter Jennet (POWELL) a Negro boy named Elias, one horse of $100 and a new saddle and bridle, a bed and furniture; to my daughter Betsey (POWELL) one Negro girl named Rachel, one horse of $100 value and a new saddle and bridle, one bed and furniture; to my daughter Sarah (POWELL), one Negro girl named Hesse, one horse of $100 value and a new saddle and bridle, and a bed and furniture; to my son Volhonorous (POWELL), one Negro boy named Ben, one horse of $100 value and a new saddle and bridle and a bed and furniture, 500 acres of land to be run of the lower end of a tract of land belonging to me on Guyen Moores Creek in York District; to my son James Caps one tract of land that I purchased at the sale of GARDNERS estate and one cow and calf and a mare called Big gut; the further part of my land on Guyen Moores Creek to be sold by my executors and the money arising there from to be applying in discharging my just debts and legacies; my children under age to have the whole benefit of the aforementioned property for their support and for the education of my children; my friends William LOVE, Esq., Mager (Major?) Will of James POWELL of State of South Carolina, York District, being weak in body…to my dear and beloved wife the gray mare, one bed and furniture and her saddle & dresser and furniture, half dozen chares (chairs), one writing desk; to my beloved daughter Sarah (POWELL) my part of the unbequeathed part of my father’s estate, my part of a tract of land on Cherokee Creek, Spartanburgh District, also my Negro boy named Ned and my part of my brother Thomas POWELL’S estate and if my dear daughter dies before it come to age, her part to devolve to my beloved wife. Will of Edward GALIMORE of the County of York & State of South Carolina being very weak & sick in body…to my beloved wife Pheby GALLIMORE all and entirely my estate at her disposal during her life and at her death should she not survive the children, I desire that she may leave each of the children an equal part…dated 21 Feb 1801.
